What is your purpose?

What is your purpose?

Who are you? You were born in a country. You have a gender and a race. You had parents, at least when you took your first steps. You have a background and experiences you might be proud of, and others that taught you valuable lessons. You have a personality and talents, just like many others. But does that define you? Does it define the best version of yourself?

Someday you will no longer be on earth; whatever your beliefs may be, your life on earth will come to an end—your personality, your talents, your résumé, and everything else. What will remain? What will you be when the version of you that we know is nothing more than a distant memory?

When you look beyond the ego and choose courage over fear, what emerges beneath that facade?

Purpose. Your “why.”

It’s the reason you keep trying even when the odds are stacked against you and there’s nothing to gain. It’s the impact you make, which spreads like waves across the ocean. It’s the essence you leave behind long after the rest of you no longer exists in physical form.

It is your Purpose, but one that you share with millions of others—if they dare. It lies at your core and guides your path when you listen and don’t let money take precedence over happiness.

Now, your Purpose isn’t a cause or a mission to Mars, but rather the little things that will help you go far. Your Purpose is the reason you get up in the morning and gives you hope for each day. It’s the reason you choose to persevere and keep going, when you could look the other way and give up on what fulfills you, simply because it’s hard.

For you, it might mean helping everyone you know to thrive, or taking care of planet Earth. Perhaps you’re among the one-third who are looking for something bigger and want to “get the herd moving.” But it’s about finding what inspires us to say, “This is my calling.” Look within yourself and discover what drives you to act, and you’ll know that’s the path.

But how will you embrace the impact that defines you? Should you be like Gandhi? Flex your arm and you’ll see the superpowers you possess—even if some of them might require a little more practice. Practice makes perfect, and it will soon become clear what strengths you’ve been given to leave your mark.

The first challenge you face now: discovering your Purpose.
