Connecting Organizational and Personal Purpose: A Two-Way Journey
What we did
Connecting personal purpose with organizational purpose is the key to mobilizing real commitment and impact
What are you looking for?
What Is Your Purpose?
Who are you? You were born in a country. You have a gender and a race. You had parents, at least when you took your first steps. You have a résumé and experiences you can be proud of, and others that taught you lessons. You have a personality and talents, like many people. But does that define you? Does it define the best version of you?
Someday you will no longer be on this earth; whatever your beliefs, your life on earth will come to an end. Your personality, your talents, your résumé, and all the rest. What will remain? What will you be when the version of you we know is just a distant memory?
When you look beyond the ego and choose courage over fear, what emerges beneath the surface?
Purpose. Your why.
It’s the reason you keep trying when the odds are against you and there are no rewards. It’s the impact you make, spreading like waves across the sea. It’s the essence you leave behind long after the rest of you no longer exists in physical form.
It’s your Purpose, but one you share with millions of others, if they dare. It lies at your core and guides your path when you listen and don’t let money come before happiness.
Now, your Purpose isn’t a cause or a mission to Mars, but the small things that will help you go far. Purpose is the reason you get up in the morning, and it gives you hope for each day. It’s the reason you choose to care and keep going, when you could look the other way and give up on what fulfills you because it’s hard.
For you, it may lie in helping everyone you meet to thrive or in caring for planet Earth. Perhaps you’re among the third who seek something bigger and want to “move the herd.” But it’s about seeking what inspires us to say, “this is my thing.” Look within and discover what moves you to act, and you’ll know that is the way.
But how will you own the impact that defines you? Should you be like Gandhi? Flex your arm and you’ll see the superpowers you have, even if some may need a bit more exercise. Practice makes perfect, and soon it will become clear which strengths you’ve been given to leave your mark.
Your first challenge now: discover your Purpose.
